The glue has melted the hosetail and it has fallen off the heat pump and the pool has emptied, help!

The solvent-based glue, especially if applied in excessive amounts, can indeed react with ABS plastic, compromising its integrity and causing it to melt or deform.

Here's a suggested course of action:

  1. Immediate Measures: As before, shut off the water supply, turn off the heat pump, and check for any other compromised connections.

  2. Remove Affected Fitting: If the hosetail has been damaged or deformed by the solvent, it will need to be replaced.

  3. Replacement: Acquire a new ABS hosetail fitting. Ensure that it's of the correct size and design for your needs.

  4. Re-attachment: Since the ridged section of the hosetail is designed for clamping and not for gluing, secure it with an appropriately sized jubilee clip or hose clamp. Ensure the connection is tight and secure.

  5. Use Solvent-Based Glues Sparingly: If gluing is necessary for other parts, use it sparingly and in well-ventilated areas, ensuring it doesn't come in contact with parts not meant to be glued.

In the future, it's essential to double-check the compatibility of materials and adhesives to prevent such incidents. Solvent-based glues can be aggressive on plastics, especially if not used as intended. Always ensure you're using the right products for the right applications.
