Bannatyne Group select Plastica for outdoor pool cover energy savings
The Bannatyne's Health club in Broadstairs selected Plastica Pools to manufacture and fit an outdoor pool cover that will significantly reduce their energy usage and costs.
The 20m x 8m pool is Thanet’s only year round heated outdoor pool. Plastica supplied a 5mm Supercover on a bespoke motorised slatted reel system, along with a wind wire system to ensure that the cover stays anchored down in harsh weather.
The cover will not only enable the Club to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing energy usage, but also provide the Club with considerable cost savings on its heating bills.

The reel system is made with stainless steel to maximise strength and ease of maintenance. It uses ultra quiet motors with soft start and stop electronics to prolong the life of the reel and cover.
Cale Sinfield, Plastica’s Customer Service and Marketing Manager, said “Our product will meet the Club’s need for a strong heat retention cover. All the edges of the cover are hemmed, as standard, to prevent fraying and we weld the seams lengthways, rather than widthways, to ensure that they are not strained when it is reeled in and out.” In addition, the lightweight cover features Plastica’s handmade, fully sealed and foam-filled leading edge which will assist with the ease of use of the system, as well as assisting with buoyancy and reducing wear and tear.
